Help for Tutors
Applying to teach
Sign in with Google at Teach on Jet Skills and complete the application form. You'll be asked for your teaching background, the skills you want to teach, the languages you speak, and an intro video.
Once you submit, your application goes to our team for review. We'll email you when there's a decision, and the Getting Started page in your dashboard always shows where you currently stand.
- A Google account to sign in with — tutor accounts don't use passwords.
- At least one skill you want to teach, and it must be approved for your account.
- An intro video. Your profile can't go live without one.
- A Zoom account, for teaching. You can connect it before or after approval.
Can I change my application after submitting?
Yes, until we start reviewing it. Open Getting Started and edit the application. After approval, your profile becomes the thing you edit instead.
How long does review take?
It varies with how many applications are in the queue. If you haven't heard anything and it's been a while, email us — we'd rather hear from you than leave you waiting.
Your interview
Most applications include a short video interview. We'll email you a scheduled time and a Zoom link, and the same details appear on your Getting Started page.
If the time doesn't work, use Can't make this time on that page to release the slot. That cancels the interview and tells us to offer you another one — it does not withdraw your application.
I missed my interview. Is my application dead?
No. Email us and we'll schedule another. Cancelling in advance is much better than not showing up, but neither ends your application automatically.
While you're under review
You don't have to wait idle. Most of your teaching setup is open before approval, so you can be ready to accept bookings the moment your profile goes live.
- Availability — set your weekly hours and block-outs.
- Lessons & Pricing — set your rates.
- Zoom — connect your account.
- Payout method and Tax details — get paperwork out of the way.
- Settings and Notifications.
- Your profile is read-only — it's the thing our team is reviewing.
- Bookings, Messages and Earnings stay empty, because you aren't listed in search yet.
Can a learner find me or book me before approval?
No. Unapproved tutors are excluded from search and your lessons can't be purchased, so nothing you configure now is visible to learners.
Your profile
Your profile is what learners read before booking. Once you're approved, it publishes itself as soon as it's complete — and unpublishes itself if you remove something required. There's no separate publish button.
- Display name
- Teaching bio
- Timezone
- Country
- At least one skill
- At least one spoken language
- At least one video
A profile photo and a connected Zoom account are not on that list — we won't hold you out of search over a photo. You'll still be nudged about both from your dashboard, and you do need Zoom before you actually teach.
To change your photo, click it on the profile page. You can write your bio in English and generate a Traditional Chinese draft from it with the translate button — always read the draft before saving, it's a starting point rather than a finished translation.
I disappeared from search. Why?
Three possibilities. Either something required above is now blank, or you've paused yourself in Settings, or you've picked up too many late cancels and no-shows — see Late cancels & no-shows.
Changing my timezone asks me to confirm. Why?
Because your availability is stored against your timezone, so changing it moves every weekly window you've set. The confirmation page shows what will happen before you commit.
Availability
Availability has three layers. Weekly windows are your normal recurring hours. Date exceptions add or remove time on one specific date. Time off blocks a range of days at once — use it for holidays rather than blocking each date by hand.
Click a weekday name to edit every occurrence of that day, or click a date to change just that one. The calendar shows your real bookable time with all three layers applied, plus your existing bookings, so you can see conflicts before a learner does.
- Everything is shown in your own timezone, and in the learner's timezone to them.
- The earliest bookable slot is 24 hours from now.
- The furthest ahead a learner can book is 180 days.
- A slot is blocked out for 60 minutes for a standard lesson and 30 minutes for a basic or trial one — slightly longer than the lesson, so you get a breather between back-to-back sessions.
I'm available but no slots show up.
Check the 24-hour lead time first — today and tomorrow morning often aren't bookable. Then check for a block-out or time off covering the date, and confirm your timezone is right.
Does removing availability cancel bookings?
No. Already-confirmed lessons stand. Changing availability only affects what's offered from now on — to get out of a booked lesson, cancel or reschedule it explicitly.
Lessons & pricing
You set one standard rate. Everything else is derived from it, so there's no product catalogue to manage — go to Lessons & Pricing and enter your prices.
- Standard — 50 minutes. You set this price.
- Basic — 25 minutes, automatically 50% of your standard price.
- Trial — 25 minutes. You set this price, and it may be free.
- Standard packages: 1, 5, 10, 20 lessons. Basic packages: 1, 10, 20, 40 lessons.
- Bigger packages carry a discount — 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% across the ladder.
- Jet Skills adds 10% on top of your price and charges that to the learner. It is not deducted from you.
- So your earning per lesson is your own rate, less any package discount on that package. The 10% never comes out of your side.
- Packages a learner buys stay valid for 6 months.
Why does the learner see a higher price than I set?
That's the 10% platform markup added on top. You still earn your own rate — the markup is what the learner pays for using Jet Skills, not a cut of your fee.
Can I offer a price that isn't on the ladder?
Yes, in a conversation. Send a custom offer with your own lesson count and discount — see Messages & offers.
My lessons aren't purchasable.
Your product needs a name, at least one skill, and a standard price above zero — and your account has to be approved. Any one of those missing and nothing can be bought.
Connecting Zoom
Every confirmed lesson gets its own Zoom meeting, created automatically on your own Zoom account. You host from your account, under your own settings — Jet Skills only creates and cleans up the meetings for lessons booked here.
Connecting your account
- Go to Zoom in your dashboard sidebar.
- Click Connect Zoom.
- Sign in to Zoom if you aren't already.
- Read the list of permissions Zoom shows you, then click Allow.
- You'll land back on Jet Skills and the page will show Zoom Connected with your Zoom user ID.
- Create a meeting — one scheduled meeting per confirmed lesson, with a waiting room on and join-before-host off.
- Read that meeting — to fetch a fresh host start link about 30 minutes before the lesson, because Zoom start links expire.
- Delete that meeting — if the lesson is cancelled, so your Zoom account isn't left with meetings for lessons that aren't happening.
- Read your Zoom user ID — once, when you connect, so we know which account hosts your lessons.
We only ever touch meetings Jet Skills created for a Jet Skills lesson. We don't read, change or delete anything else on your Zoom account, we don't list your other meetings, and we don't access recordings, contacts or meeting history.
Disconnecting
Click Disconnect Zoom on the same page. We revoke our access at Zoom and delete the stored tokens. Your Zoom account and any existing meetings are untouched. Reconnect before your next lesson, otherwise new bookings won't get a meeting link.
Disconnecting Zoom does not unpublish your profile — Zoom isn't one of the profile requirements listed in Your profile. It does mean lessons go out without a link, so don't leave it disconnected.
Troubleshooting
Zoom showed me an error page instead of asking for permission.
That's Zoom refusing the authorization rather than anything failing on our side, so retrying usually gives the same result. Email us with the Zoom account email you were trying to connect and we'll sort it out.
It says connection failed after I clicked Allow.
Usually a stale browser tab. Start again from the Zoom page in your dashboard in a single tab, rather than reusing an old Zoom window, and don't use a bookmarked Zoom consent URL.
A lesson has no Zoom link.
Check the Zoom page still says connected. If it's disconnected, reconnect and tell us which lesson — we can create the missing meeting. A booking is never blocked or cancelled just because the link is missing.
My start link stopped working.
Host start links are single-use and short-lived by design, so we refresh yours about 30 minutes before the lesson. Reload the booking page close to the start time to get the current one.
Can I use a different Zoom account than the one I connected?
Yes — disconnect, then connect the account you want. Meetings for lessons already created stay on the old account, so switch between lessons rather than just before one.
Booking requests
Learners request a specific time from your availability; nothing is booked until you approve. Requests appear under Bookings and you'll be notified by email and in-app.
- You have 24 hours to respond to a request.
- If the lesson starts sooner than that, the deadline moves up — a request is never left open past 2 hours before the lesson.
- Miss the deadline and the request expires on its own. The learner's session isn't consumed.
- Approving consumes one session from the learner's package. Declining doesn't.
Declining is fine and carries no penalty — it's better than accepting a lesson you can't teach. Letting requests expire repeatedly is worse for you than declining them, because responsiveness feeds your position in search results.
Two learners requested the same slot.
Approve one and the other becomes unbookable for that time — approve the one you want and decline the other, or message them to find a different slot.
Running a lesson
Open the booking and use the start link to host. It's refreshed shortly before the lesson, so load the page close to the start time rather than saving the link earlier.
- A lesson is marked complete 30 minutes after its scheduled end.
- Your earning is then held for 2 hours before it's confirmed — see Your earnings.
The learner never showed up.
Wait a reasonable time, then report it from the booking page within 2 hours of the scheduled end. Our team reviews it and decides the outcome. Don't just cancel — that reads as your cancellation, not their no-show.
We ran over, or the lesson was cut short.
Billing is per booked lesson, so minor overruns don't change anything. If it was cut short by a technical problem, message the learner and agree what to do; if you can't agree, report it and we'll review.
Lesson records
After each lesson you can write a record: a conclusion the learner reads, a private note only you see, and an optional reminder for what to prepare next time.
- Records are due about 7 days after the lesson, and we'll nudge you before that.
- The deadline isn't enforced — a late record still saves.
- One record per lesson; edit it afterwards rather than adding a second.
- The private note is never shown to the learner.
Do I have to write one?
Not strictly, but they're a large part of why learners rebook — and rebooking feeds your search ranking. The conclusion is the part that matters most.
Rescheduling
Either side can propose a new time for a confirmed lesson. It moves only when the other side approves — a proposal on its own changes nothing.
- Propose from the booking page; pick a time inside your own availability.
- The learner approves or declines. Declining leaves the original time standing.
- The session stays attached to the same package; nothing is consumed or refunded.
- The Zoom meeting is updated for the new time.
Rescheduling is almost always better than cancelling. It doesn't count as a strike, and it keeps the learner's session rather than sending them back to rebooking.
The learner won't answer my proposal.
The original time stays booked until someone acts. If it's approaching and you can't teach it, cancel or request cancellation rather than letting it become a no-show.
Cancelling
How cancellation works depends entirely on how close to the lesson you are.
- Cancel directly from the booking page.
- The session returns to the learner's package.
- The Zoom meeting is deleted.
- No strike.
- You can't cancel unilaterally — you request cancellation and the learner responds.
- If they agree, the lesson is cancelled and their session is returned.
- If they decline, our team reviews the case and decides.
- This counts as a late cancel. See below.
Something urgent came up an hour before.
Request cancellation and message the learner explaining — a learner who understands usually agrees, and agreement resolves it without staff review. Silence is what turns it into a dispute.
Late cancels & no-shows
These are the two things that can take your profile out of search, so it's worth knowing the rule exactly.
- A late cancel — cancelling inside 24 hours — counts as one strike.
- A no-show on your side counts as one strike.
- Three strikes within 30 days unpublishes your profile. You stop appearing in search and can't take new bookings.
- Already-confirmed lessons are not cancelled — you're still expected to teach them.
- Strikes age out: only the last 30 days count.
If this happens, email us. We'll go through what happened and what's needed to get you listed again. Nothing else on your account is affected — your earnings, payouts and existing lessons are untouched.
How do I see my strike count?
There's no screen for it yet, which we know is unhelpful — for now, email us and we'll tell you where you stand.
How do I avoid strikes?
Reschedule instead of cancelling, and cancel earlier than 24 hours when you know you can't teach. Neither of those is a strike. Only late cancels and no-shows are.
Disputes
When something goes wrong with a lesson and you and the learner can't agree, either side can raise a dispute and our team decides the outcome.
- Report from the booking page within 2 hours of the lesson's scheduled end.
- A declined cancellation request also goes to staff review.
- Your earning for that lesson is held while the dispute is open.
- Outcomes: the lesson stands and you're paid, or it's recorded as a no-show and the earning is voided.
I missed the 2-hour window.
Email us with the lesson date and what happened. The in-app button closes, but we can still look at the case.
Messages & offers
Learners can message you before booking. Replying quickly matters more than you'd expect — response time is one of the signals behind your position in search results.
Canned replies
Save the answers you type repeatedly under Canned messages and insert them into a conversation instead of retyping. Worth setting up before you get busy.
Custom offers
If a learner wants something the standard ladder doesn't cover, send a custom offer from the conversation. You choose the lesson type, the number of lessons and the discount, and the offer shows them the final price.
- Basic or standard lessons only — trials aren't offered this way.
- An offer is acceptable for 7 days, then it expires.
- You can withdraw an offer any time before it's accepted.
- The same 10% markup applies, so your earning works exactly as usual.
- Accepting creates a package the learner pays for, then books against normally.
Can I take payment outside Jet Skills?
No. Off-platform payment means no booking record, no Zoom link, no dispute process and no payout protection for you. If the standard prices don't fit, send a custom offer instead.
Extension requests
Learner packages expire 6 months after purchase, and unused lessons are lost at that point. A learner who's running out of time can ask you to extend, and those requests land under Extension requests.
- It's your call — approve or decline each request.
- Approving pushes the expiry date out so the remaining lessons stay usable.
- Declining means the package expires as scheduled and unused lessons are forfeited.
- Nothing changes about what you've already earned from that package.
Should I approve them?
Usually yes, if the learner intends to keep studying — an extended package means more lessons you get paid for, whereas an expired one just ends the relationship. Declining makes sense when a learner has gone quiet for a long time.
Your earnings
Earnings shows what each lesson earned you and what's available to withdraw. Money moves through three states.
- Pending — the lesson is complete but still inside the 2-hour dispute window.
- Earned — the window closed with no dispute. It now counts towards your available balance.
- Paid — included in a payout that's been sent.
- Your own rate, less any package discount on the package the lesson came from.
- The 10% platform markup is charged on top to the learner and is never deducted from you.
- Earnings are tracked in USD.
An earning can be voided if a dispute finds you didn't attend, or in a no-fault case where neither side is held responsible. Voided earnings never reach your balance.
A lesson happened but shows nothing earned.
Either it's still pending inside the dispute window, or there's an open dispute, or it was voided. The status on the earning tells you which.
Getting paid
Payouts are pull-based: money accumulates as earnings confirm, and you withdraw it when you want it. Set your destination under Payout method first.
- Payoneer — give us the email on your Payoneer account.
- Bank transfer — give us your account details.
- The minimum withdrawal is $20 of confirmed earnings.
- One payout can be in progress at a time — the next opens once it's settled.
- Withdrawals go pending, then processing, then paid.
Withdraw is greyed out.
Either your confirmed balance is under $20, or a previous payout is still processing, or your payout method isn't filled in. Pending earnings inside the dispute window don't count towards the minimum.
How long does the money take to arrive?
Once processed it depends on your provider and your bank, not on us. If a payout has been marked paid and you can't find it after a few business days, email us with the date.
Tax
Jet Skills is operated from Taiwan, so payouts are subject to Taiwanese withholding tax. Fill in Tax details before your first withdrawal — your legal name, tax residency, tax ID and address.
- Non-residents of Taiwan: 20%.
- Residents of Taiwan: 10%, on payments above NT$20,000.
- Withholding is deducted from the payout; your earnings figures are shown before tax.
Annual withholding certificates (扣繳憑單) are generated for you and appear under Tax documents, where you can download them for your own filing.
My payout was smaller than my balance.
Withholding, most likely. Compare the payout's tax line with the rates above. If your residency is recorded incorrectly, fix it in Tax details and tell us, so we can look at payouts already sent.
Can you advise me on my own taxes?
No — we can only tell you what we withheld and give you the certificate. What you owe where you live is between you and a local tax adviser.
Account & notifications
Settings holds your interface language, timezone and the pause switch. Notifications controls what reaches you by email, in-app and LINE.
- Pause hides you from search without touching your profile, availability or prices. Use it for a break rather than deleting anything.
- Interface language is yours alone — learners still see the site in their own language.
- Timezone re-anchors your availability, so it asks you to confirm first.
- Booking and payment notifications can't be turned off — they're how you find out you have a lesson.
I want to delete my account.
Email us from your account address. We'll confirm what happens to unpaid earnings and upcoming lessons first — withdraw any balance and see out or cancel your booked lessons before deleting. Some records are kept where tax law requires it; the privacy policy has the detail.
I've lost access to my Google account.
Tutor sign-in is Google-only, so email us from any address you can reach and mention the email your Jet Skills account uses. We'll verify who you are before changing anything.
Still stuck? Email us and include the lesson date and the learner's name if your question is about a specific booking.
